Lasinski Supports, Commends Gov. Whitmer, AG Nessel’s PFAS Lawsuit

Tuesday, January 14, 2020

FACTS:

  • On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, Governor Whitmer and AG Nessel announced a lawsuit against 17 chemical manufacturers

  • The lawsuit alleges that those companies “deliberately concealed the dangers of PFAS and withheld scientific evidence” and used PFAS chemicals "in a way that they knew would contaminate natural resources and expose Michigan residents to harm”

  • According to state data, at least 1.9 million Michigan residents drink water with some PFAS; another 2.5 million people with public wells have not had their water tested

LANSING – Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Attorney General Dana Nessel announced a lawsuit against 17 chemical manufacturing companies, alleging that those companies are responsible for 74 sites contaminated by PFAS. In response to the lawsuit announcement, state Rep. Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) issued the following statement:

“In Washtenaw County with the Dioxane Plume and the Huron River having indefinite “Do not fish advisories,” our community knows the very real threat PFAS poses to our health and safety. For too long, polluters have got away with creating a mess and leaving Michigan communities and taxpayers to deal with the consequences. I stand with our governor and attorney general taking the necessary actions to hold these polluters accountable.”
